The focus of the research in our laboratory is to determine the molecular mechanisms that drive embryogenesis. In particular, we are interested in events that determine and define the nervous system. For this purpose, we used as an experimental model the chicken embryo neural tube and lens. The chicken embryo is one of the classic models of embryology that allows us to observe and manipulate various embryological events. Moreover, in this animal model both the neural tube and eye are easily accessible region sof the central nervous system. Thus, we perform in ovo embryonic surgery and manipulate genetic pathways to and gene function during early neurogenesis and lens morphogenesis.
